Hey there!!! What’s happening in your part of the world? Is there drama going on right now in your hood? I do hope you’re doing extremely well. I know you’ve also got a question or even more for me and I’m so ready to answer them, but first…
What is this “StreetWORD” thing you are talking about? Well, it is very simple. It is plainly
taking the WORD to the streets using everyday street parlance and illustrations that the common street persons would understand. Pretty simple right?
You may be asking, how did you get this idea ? It came from a very popular mission statement, popularly known as
“The Great Commission”, which I like to refer to as “The Job Description” of every believer. It goes thus “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
StreetWORD is a brainchild of the Gospel. The Gospel is the good news of the Death, Burial
and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, and all the benefits these historic activities accrue to humanity
and the Ekklesia (The word where the term church is gotten from).
You know how when a new government decree is passed into law, the government uses its agencies to educate and share to the populace about the new decree? Well that is the same way the Ekklesia is charged with the
responsibility of not just sharing the good news, but educating all creatures in this realm of existence
of the realities of this NEW COVENANT (otherwise known as law or decree) that was cut between
Jesus and YHWH whose effect is for the re-establishment of a loving relationship between God and
man, making ONE NEW MAN (Ephesians 2 vs 11-22).
We are charged with the responsibility of taking the Gospel to the ends of the earth meanwhile demonstrating the realities of this covenant.
This is what StreetWORD is. The word translated to world in the text above loosely translates to culture, i.e we are asked to go into the cultures that are existent and preach the gospel. Hip Hop is a culture that is prevalent in
literally every society on earth, it is so great an influence that in every household on earth there is an
individual that is either directly or indirectly influenced by hip hop. If you listen to the song Send Me by Lecrae or Urban Missionary by Thi’sl, you would see that the concept of StreetWORD is not foreign to the hip hop culture.
When anyone comes in contact with information or a knowledge of something that can help
him/her to become better in any endeavour, that person is most likely wants to share that information
with those he/she cares about. Well, it is only surprising that many believers do not act that way with the
GOSPEL. We have to be proactive and intentional about sharing this GOOD NEWS we have
graciously believed.
StreetWORD is the zone where we talk, gist, learn, instruct each other on how to engage and
penetrate the structure and blockade of the streets.
